The Most Effective Way to Delete Apps on iPhone

Updated · Tested with iOS 27.0.1 and macOS 27.0.1 · Requires macOS 15 Sequoia or later or Windows 10 (1809) or later

The most effective way to delete apps on iPhone is to delete them in one batch from your computer with iUninstall. iUninstall runs on your Mac or Windows PC. It lists every app on your iPhone with its size, so you see which apps take the most space. You select the apps, confirm one time, and iUninstall deletes them and checks each one. For one or two apps, the Home Screen on the iPhone is enough.

Why iUninstall is the most effective way

An effective cleanup has two parts. You must find the right apps, and then you must delete them without a long series of taps. iUninstall does both on one screen:

  • One confirmation for the whole batch. On the iPhone, each app needs its own confirmation. In iUninstall, you confirm the list one time, and the batch runs without you.
  • You see the size before you delete. Each app shows its app size and its data size, so you start with the apps that free the most space.
  • You find the apps that you forgot. Filters show the apps that you did not open in 7, 30, or 90 days (on a Mac, with Screen Time sharing), the apps with large data, and the apps with no update in 2 years.
  • "Deleted" means deleted. iUninstall checks the app list of the iPhone after each app. An app shows "Deleted" only when it is really gone.
  • Safe by design. Nothing is selected at the start. You can mark apps as protected, so they are never selected. Built-in Apple apps are not in the list.
  • One price, no subscription. The scan is free. Deleting costs $9.99 one time, on up to 3 computers.
  • Private. No account. The app list stays on your computer.

How to delete iPhone apps with iUninstall

  1. Connect your iPhone. Open iUninstall on your Mac (macOS 15 Sequoia or later) or your Windows PC (Windows 10 (1809) or later, or Windows 11), and connect the iPhone with a USB cable. Tap Trust on the iPhone if it asks.
  2. Sort or filter the list. iUninstall lists every app that you installed, with its app size and its data size. Sort by size, or click a filter such as "Large data" or "Not opened in 30 days".
  3. Select the apps. Tick the apps that you do not need, or click Select All in a filter. Protected apps are never selected.
  4. Delete and confirm once. Click Delete, read the list, and confirm. iUninstall deletes the apps one after the other and checks that each app is gone.

The built-in ways, and when to use them

Home Screen or App Library

Touch and hold the app, tap Remove App, tap Delete App, then tap Delete (Apple iPhone User Guide). This is the fastest way for one app. For ten or more apps, you repeat the same taps for each app, and you must find each icon. Be careful: "Remove from Home Screen" only moves the app to App Library. It does not delete the app.

iPhone Storage in Settings

Open Settings, tap General, then tap iPhone Storage. The list shows your apps with their storage use. Tap an app, then tap Delete App. This helps you find the large apps, but you still delete one app at a time.

Offload App

Offload removes the app but keeps its documents and data. So you get back less space than with Delete. Use it for an app that you will use again. Read Offload vs Delete for the difference.

Erase All Content and Settings

This deletes everything on the iPhone, including your photos and messages. It is not a way to clean up apps. Use it only before you sell or give away the iPhone.

Tips for an effective cleanup

  1. Start with the "Large data" filter. A few apps often keep most of the data.
  2. Delete, do not offload, the apps that you do not need. Delete also frees the space of their data.
  3. Protect the apps that must stay, such as your bank and your work apps, before you click Select All.
  4. Cancel subscriptions first. Deleting an app does not cancel its subscription (Apple Support).
  5. Repeat every few months. The "Not opened in 90 days" filter shows the apps that you stopped using since the last cleanup. See how to find unused apps.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best app to delete apps on iPhone?

iUninstall is the best choice when you want to delete many iPhone apps. It runs on your Mac or Windows PC, shows the size of each app, and deletes all the apps that you select after one confirmation. The scan is free, and deleting costs $9.99 one time.

What is the easiest way to delete apps on iPhone?

For one app, touch and hold it on the Home Screen, tap Remove App, tap Delete App, then tap Delete. For many apps, iUninstall is easier: you tick the apps in one list on your computer and confirm one time.

Does deleting apps free up space?

Yes. Deleting an app frees the space of the app and of its data on the iPhone. Offload frees only the app size, because it keeps the data. The storage value on the iPhone can take a moment to update (Apple iPhone User Guide).

Is it better to offload or delete apps?

Delete an app that you do not need, because you get more space back. Offload an app that you will use again and whose data you want to keep. See Offload vs Delete.

Do I need to jailbreak my iPhone?

No. iUninstall connects to the iPhone with the same USB protocol that your computer uses for Finder or the Apple Devices app. You do not need a jailbreak, Xcode, or an app on the iPhone.

Can I get a deleted app back?

Yes, if the app is still in the App Store. The History in iUninstall keeps an App Store link for each deleted app. The data of the app on the iPhone does not come back. Data in iCloud stays.
